Platelet Rich fibrin marix (PRfm)
PRFM is an emerging treatment that can help regrow lost hair. Platelets are the cells in the blood that help tissue to heal and grow new cells – they help promote hair growth by prolonging the growing phase of the hair cycle.
Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) begins with a small blood draw (usually from the arm). The blood is then placed in a sterile tube that is spun down in a centrifuge to separate the different components of the blood. Red and white blood cells are divided from the platelets and the plasma (the clear fluid). This plasma now contains a higher than normal number of platelets and is called platelet rich plasma, or PRP. PRP is then converted to PRFM creating a scaffold to protect and preserve the platelets so their release of growth factors can be sustained over a longer period of time when they delivered back into the scalp. Typically, patients will need monthly injections for 3 consecutive months, and then maintenance treatments every 6-12 months. The injection schedule will depend on your genetics, pattern and amount of hair loss, age and hormones.
