Varicose Veins & Spider Veins
Sclerotherapy is an effective treatment for varicose and spider veins. The procedure is relatively painless and can be done in our office where a solution will be injected directly into the unwanted blood vessel. The sclerotherapy solution causes irritation of the injected vessels making them close and eventually be reabsorbed by local tissue.
Your doctor may request an ultrasound on the veins in your legs, depending on which veins are involved. This will identify any potential underlying blood vessel disease.
Results are seen 6-8 weeks after treatment. Usually several sclerotherapy treatments may be needed.
Most people return to their normal activities on the same day, however you should avoid strenuous exercise for two weeks after the procedure. You will also want to avoid sun exposure to the treated areas for about two weeks to prevent dark spots ( hyperpigmentation) of the treated areas.
